Jon Dyball joined the Obi Design Team 2010 and comes with 20 years experience across the clothing industry’s spectrum, from patternmaking and production through design in both men’s and women’s wear. Jon’s career began in menswear, where he spent eleven years mastering fine tailoring.
Eventually, with a need to expand his creative abilities, Jon delved head first into a new creative dimension, entering the “wonderful world of women’s wear”! Jon’s unique “handwriting” is playful and clever. Full of interesting elements and texture and using quality fabrications, his work fits perfectly into the Obi way of thinking.
Not to be grounded by life’s rules and regulations, Jon sees outside the square and happily explores the use of unconventional and unexpected design elements.
Obi is the thinking woman’s label, reflecting the new ‘Pacific cool’ with subtle colours and textures creating a quiet integrity. Thoughtful, measured and intelligent design is evident in the unique cuts and styling with a distinct edginess that comes from living in a country with a newly emerging sense of self.
The Obi woman represents the contemporary unfettered spirit that still exists within New Zealand. She is confident, composed and enigmatic. A woman of substance.
The Obi collections are known for combining beautiful European fabrics with trims inspired in texture and colour by the country’s unique landscape. The ‘proudly made in New Zealand’ statement on the swing tag is not only a statement of origin, but of originality.
