Size-inclusive fashion - it’s something we’ve been doing for a while.
It all began in 1992 with one simple goal: to equip women with curves with the style, confidence and fit they need to navigate all the different aspects of their busy lives.
Starting with a single store in Lower Hutt, Jenny Smith and Geoff Wylde, together with an awesome team, have grown Zebrano into six stores throughout New Zealand, along with online stores serving customers in New Zealand and Australia.
Our aim has always been simple: bring great design and beautifully/expertly fitting fashion to women with curves.
From accessible, everyday labels such as Elm through to the more directional creations of Moyuru and Rundholz, the common thread is finding that perfect fit. We look for fashion that works for women with curves, with a selection and level of design that can rival any fashion store.
We are curators
We don’t design or manufacture our own clothes. Instead, we partner with designers and expert fashion businesses who do. We have the privilege of discovering new talent alongside labels with decades of experience and expertise.
We are curators. Every label we represent and every piece we bring into the collection has been chosen by our team because it delivers on style, shape, and quality.
Fit is everything
Getting the fit right is everything. That’s why we put so much emphasis on fit when selecting our ranges. We look for designers who understand women with curves, and we do the hard work of selecting the pieces that we believe genuinely work.
The result is a collection that reflects some of the best in curve-conscious fashion, without compromising on style.
A local focus and a culture of inclusivity
Our stores are deeply connected to their local cities and communities. Our store managers have the freedom to decide which styles and collections are going to work best for their customers. That means the mix in Auckland might be a little different from Christchurch or Wellington, and that’s exactly how we like it.
Our local focus also extends to online shopping. Every online order is processed and fulfilled by one of our stores. This can occasionally mean your order takes a little longer to dispatch. But there’s a good reason for it. Your local team has your best interests at heart. They may already know the brands and shapes that work for you and the styles you love. They can also bring products together from different Zebrano locations, so wherever possible you receive one delivery rather than several parcels.
It’s a little different from the way many online retailers operate, but we think it’s worth it.
Our products and how we operate
Social responsibility is important to Zebrano. While we don’t work directly with clothing factories, we work closely with our suppliers to ensure they align with appropriate Ethical Trading policies and International Labour Organisation (ILO) conventions.
We think carefully about the brands and products we choose to support. Extremely low prices raise questions. Our view is that if the price of a product is exceptionally low, someone or something is likely bearing the real cost, whether that’s workers, the environment, or animals.
Animal welfare
Animal welfare is important to Zebrano.
We take a strong position against inhumane practices and against products where we have significant concerns about the treatment of animals whose coats are used for fashion or as a component of a fibre. As a result, we dont stock products containing:
- Cashmere
- Angora
- Mohair
- Alpaca
- Down
- Fur
- Leather, except where it is sourced from New Zealand or Australia, as a by-product of a food source and we have confidence that it comes from a local and responsible supply chain
- Exotic animal skins
We recognise that supply chains can be complex and that it is not always possible to know every detail of every product. Our approach is to ask questions, understand where products come from and make responsible choices about the clothing we put into our stores.
Zebrano today
After more than 30 years, the original idea behind Zebrano remains the same.
We believe no women should have to compromise on style or selection. Great fashion can be designed for a diversity of body shapes and sizes. And we believe finding clothes that fit well and enhance your shape should be an enjoyable experience, not a frustrating one.
That’s what we’re here to do: find great fashion, bring that perfect fit, and ensure our customers look and feel fantastic wearing it.
