Body Shape Guide

We believe in trying everything to find styles that work for your unique body, and that anyone can wear anything that makes them feel great!
However, if you’re not sure where to start, you can use this guide to help select styles that suit and balance to your shape.

Why are we still talking about body shapes?

The secret is using styles that create a well-balanced silhouette. If one part of your body is narrow and another wide, then visually widening the narrowest area can provide balance and encourage visual proportion.

Pear

If you are a bottom-heavy beauty – meaning you’re bigger around the hips, bottom, or thighs than you are up top – you’re a Pear! Work that womanly figure by adding more shape and structure above the waist.

Bring out your best:
Balance out your curvy bottom half with details around your shoulders and top half: bold bright tops, tops with large collars, lapels, or sleeves, and of course accessories! Wear darker coloured skirts and pants and trousers that are slightly tapered.

Best to avoid:
Tube, pencil, and fishtail skirts, especially tight-fitting ones that will emphasise your hips and behind.

Apple

The Apple of our eye! You’re likely evenly-proportioned and may carry your weight around your midsection. Dressing the Apple shape is all about showing off those best bits and avoiding added volume round your middle.

Bring out your best:
Empire line and longer-length tops will look great on your figure! Low-ish necklines will add definition to your shape. Throw on some high-placed accessories to draw the eye upwards. Wear dresses without these features: waistlines, squared-off exaggerated shoulders, and open dusters.

Best to avoid:
Short, boxy jackets (unless you are using then to create layers) and pleated or tiered skirts are not your friends.

Hourglass

Curvy Hourglass girls go in at the middle and often have a fuller bust/bottom in contrast to their smaller waists. If you’re an Hourglass, you’ve got a very classic shape – don’t drown it in baggy clothes!

Bring out your best:
Wrap dresses, waist-cinching belts, and flared or wide leg jeans will look fantastic on you!

Best to avoid:
Shapeless baggy jumpers or anything oversize that hides your wonderful waist!

Heart

Sassy Heart-shaped ladies have a figure that’s bigger up top than on their bottom half – think broad shoulders and/or bigger breasts in relation to their waist and hips. This build could make you look top heavy, but there are a few simple ways to soften your shape!

Bring out your best:
Fuller skirts, wide leg trousers, bold textures, and horizontal stripes worn below the waist will balance out your body shape beautifully. Don’t be afraid of bright colour on your bottom half either! Choose styles that work for a bigger bust, like open necklines, V-necks and wrap styles, vertical stripes, and single-breasted jackets.

Best to avoid:
Details that draw attention to your top half are best to avoid! Steer away from puff sleeves, epaulettes, and halter necks.

Rectangle

Rectangle girls have a straight up-and-down body with little to no definition. The main aim for rectangles is to create some feminine shapeliness in your thighs and bust while cinching in your waistline.

Bring out your best:
Add fullness to your upper body with fitted blazers, tops with shoulder pads, embellishments or pockets around the bust. Add shape around the hips with mid to low rise pants that feature embellishments around the hip and bottom area. Then complete the look with a belt or top that cinches in the waist and flares towards the hips.

Best to avoid:
Avoid square and straight necklines, shapeless fitted sleeve styles, boxy fitting tops, straight-fitted trousers and cropped tops ending at the waist.
